About the Play
This is a reading of a play by first-time playwright Jackie Freitas, from the company that brought you the SRO performances of Vagina Monologues & Lorena Hickok & Eleanor Roosevelt: A Love Story. Proceeds from all performances will benefit Greyhound Rescue Organizations that find homes for ex-racing Greyhounds.

In the play, 27 species put humans on trial for their atrocities, while two species testify in their defense. The prosecuting attorney is an eloquent ventriloquist crow puppet playing the part of Crowtorney, and the human defense attorney will also be played by Conn in a Jekyll-and-Hyde scenario. Marco portrays be the Caterpillar, who recites a Greek-chorus style poem that runs throughout the play and morphs into a Butterfly as she takes the stand to testify. Jackson and Berkowitz will be portraying all of the accusing species. Species Woman, protector of all living things of Earth and the Universe, is the judge:

She’ll make the decision of whether to nudge
humans off this place, and start a new race;
to do what humans dissed, a being who can coexist
with all of Earth’s little ones, without toxins and guns.
